The Waffle House

We stopped by this Waffle House for what was suppose to be a quick late breakfast for me, hubby and one of our daughters, Mallory.
From the outside it looked like a pretty big place. Turns out...it was very small. So we waited and waited for a table. Finally, they had no table yet for us...but a lovely spot at a counter where you actually watch the people cook your food. I watched as the hostess wet-wiped our counter areas with a rag that looked like it had seen better days. I was wonderly when that rag had ever been cleaned or even changed...or does she use that thing all day for her entire shift. We finally took our seats at this counter because we were hungry. The people were friendly and seemed to get along with each other. We placed our order and waited.
I see one line cook with plastic gloves on...none of the other line cooks were wearing them. Here we go, I start wondering if the man that is touching all the waffles with his bare hands, well, if he washes them after going to the bathroom. We've all heard the statistics!
By now he has touched what turns out to be MY waffle about 8 times with those hands. I am now hoping that he had a mother like me that taught him the importance of washing his hands. I now see a waffle ready for pick up....that he has placed a plastic container of butter on TOP of the waffle. Goodness knows how many people have touched that container and now it is sitting on the center of my waffle. So, it sits there and it sits...and no light above it to keep it hot and it sits some more. Finally our waitress gets it and plops it right down in front of me. The syrup jar is all filthy with sticky all over it. It's the only one there...so i'm screwed.
Yes, my waffle was cold....and it was flat and looked much like a waffle you buy frozen and put in a toaster.
Was I glad we stopped there....nope! I did, however, enjoy the fact that my daughter and my husband liked their food. Sometimes I think you have to get your joy from those sitting right next to you!
