Yes, finally ....someone (ME!) has finally said the real truth about cellphones! Initially...long ago...I loved the concept...but mainly for emergencies...like a car accident, or if my car were to break down...or running late...and someone old is expecting me and they will worry!Flash forward to today...the beginning of 2009...and here is my new outlook on them. Ready?
It seems like now...we have no quiet time at all. We can be in the supermarket, at the bank, at the movies...and even in church...and anyone can now reach us. Does anyone even remember how much fun it was long ago when we bought answering machines and we could screen our calls..thus avoiding all the annoying people that knew our phone number? And, our lives became even easier when we ordered call waiting from the phone company...and right there...immediately..we had the person's name and phone number that was calling us...giving us the choice to answer the phone or not.
Now...with the cellphones...no one cares when they call us/what time it is/or even what we may be in the middle of doing. And the cell phone caller of 2009 now feels a sense of entitlement that they HAVE your cell phone number...so you are then required by them...to actually answer the call. The texting then takes this sense of entitlement...much deeper! If you don't IMMEDIATELY answer a text....did you notice how pissy these professional texters become? Oh, yea....they send you off another text...like in 20 seconds...requiring your answer. My one daughter started this crap that she sends me a text....wanting something ...of course...and then if I do not immediately answer her...she RESENDS me the same text. Now...the moment I receive her second text...I put her on ignore. Let me tell you...she goes crazy! She hates it...she will keep texting me only now she will re-word her request...in many different ways...until...finally...finally...she is officially now mad at me...and says something nasty...and then stops! I must say...I now enjoy watching the show on the text ....of her climbing up that texting mountain...the mountain of wanting something out of me...and then...the DROP....oh...so sweet...the drop! I know I sound old here...but when I was young...I had to ask my Mom face to face for whatever it is I wanted. There was certainly no calling her and driving her crazy on the phone until I got what I wanted. I would not be here today...that's for sure!
The other thing I noticed...is how the young people live there entire life around the texting...they take those phones in the bathroom...and everywhere....it's like they think they are brain surgeons...and at any second...the hospital will be paging them to save...yet another life!
It's crazy...and also notice how nasty those texts can become. I know couples that literally argue all day long...thru texting. So, that little argument they had in the morning...becomes a huge war
by dinner time...the same day! All because that cell phone is right there...and it is ready!
Another one of the latest crazes on the cell phone....is texting the opposite sex...now, do you need to be a genius to know where i am going with this one. Sure....it all begins on an innocent note...bitchy with a co-worker about the boss....or what to order for lunch....but just look around...more often than not...it leads to....sexual texts...and before you know it...they want you to send them a photo of you naked! And the best part of all of this is...that people are SO STUPID....read this part TWICE... to think that YOU are the ONLY one...these people are texting! They have a phonebook full of many stupid people....they are doing this with....
and they are going at it to beat hell...and it is equal to electronic fishing! They get a small bite from you...they text you a little more...and so on and so on!
They are not really obligated...because if you were to truly ask them...what's up with all this...they would say ...."it's just texting"....see...they get it...but sadly...many people on the other end don't.
I love the husbands and wives that REFUSE to allow each other to LOOK at their cell phone. Oh, yes....it is clearly some sort of breach of privacy or something. This type of deal doesn't work at my house...do I look stupid? At any time, my husband is more than welcome to look at my phone...and the same goes for me. Do you know why? Because we are not doing anything wrong....that's why! We are married....and we don't play games with others on our cell phones because we are so smart that we know exactly where that all leads to ....it leads to meeting people in parking lots and doing things that you said you wouldn't do when you said I DO!
I think if a spouse doesn't want the other to ever look at anything on their cell phone...I would say it's time for a divorce. What the hell are they hiding? Anything I write to anyone in a text...can be reviewed by my husband at any time. I don't care...ask him if he has even looked thru my phone...i doubt it...but i have had him see what the text was when it went off...if i was busy,etc.
Lastly....how about that level of rudeness that happens...people say in a text stuff that i bet you a hundred bucks they would never have the guts to say to your face!
There you have it....my personal opinion of cell phones. Will I throw mine in the river anytime soon...probably not. But, many times....when I just want to have a little quiet...I just shut it off. I think mental breaks are good...for everyone!
